IS A HIGH-YIELDING,TSWV-RESISTANT RUNNER-TYPE VARIETY |
||
| GEORGIA GREEN is a high-yielding, TSWV-resistant runner-type peanut variety that was released in 1995 by the Georgia Agricultural Experiment Stations. It was developed at the University of Georgias Coastal Plain Experiment Station in Tifton, Georgia. Georgia Green is very productive and has good stability across many different environments. In 16 multilocation yield tests conducted in Georgia over the past three years (2000-02), Georgia Green was found to have a significantly higher yield and dollar value return and produced a higher percentage of total sound mature kernels (TSMK) than AgraTech 201. | Georgia Green has a high level of resistance to tomato spotted wilt virus(TSWV). During 2002 irrigated field tests, Georgia Green was also found to have the highest yield, grade, and dollar value per acre compared to Carver, Andru II and Norden. Georgia Green has the same maturity and seed size as Florunner with similar distribution of jumbo, but more medium and fewer No. 1's. Georgia Green also has considerably less vine growth than other regular runner types and performs well in both twin and single rows and in conventional as well as reduced tillage systems. | Georgia Green was developed by Dr. William D. Branch at the University of Georgias Coastal Plain Experiment Station in Tifton GA. It is a protected peanut variety that can only be sold as a class of certified seed and only by individuals licensed by the Georgia Seed Development Commission (GSDC) under guidelines established in conjunction with the University of Georgia Research Foundation (UGARF). |
